Being upright comes with its challenges! Back pain is the second most common physical complaint (headaches are number one) and the most common cause of job-related disability and a leading contributor to missed work. Americans spend at least $50 billion each year on treatments for back pain! On a happier note, recent studies show that strengthening and stretching exercises like yoga are more effective for managing chronic back pain than surgery or pain medications, and offer little to no harmful side effects. This is good news!

In this six-week Back Care series we will:

  • study the basic anatomy and physiology of back pain to uncover common unhealthy habits
  • learn practice healthy alignment and movement patterns (sitting, standing, walking)
  • practice gentle stretching and strengthening exercises designed to increase support and balance to the structures of the spine and pelvis, legs and feet
  • practice self-massage techniques that help to relieve pain, increase circulation, speed healing, and build a better mental embody map.

You will leave with a well stocked tool kit of back care savvy that will help you to solve current issues and avoid future problems.

This is a 6 weeks series starting on February 5th and ending on March 12th taking place in 8 limbs yoga West Seattle on Thursdays from 7:15pm to 8:30pm and led by Tracy Hodgeman.
