Are you ready to take your RYT200 Training to the next level and become a RYT500?

This is a unique teacher training given by one of the most experienced yoga teacher & teacher trainers in the northwest. Richard Schachtel has been giving yoga teacher training classes since 1986 and has influenced many yoga teachers around the US and Abroad. Richard has been a close student of BKS Iyengar (Light on Yoga) and Geeta S. Iyengar (Yoga: a Gem For Women) for over 30 years. His 20 yoga study trips to India have helped make him one of the most knowledgeable teachers of Iyengar Yoga in this area and in the US.

The training meets on 14 TWO day weekends over a 18 months period with time to assimilate the material. Also included is 100 hours of Supervised Apprenticeship Training with Richard Schachtel AND/Or 100 Hours of Weekend Specialized Workshops. The program has been revised as of 8/1/2015 to include the apprenticeship option which is sorely missing in most 300 hour “advanced” trainings!

The course is open to anyone who is a graduate of an approved RYT-200 School. You do  not have to have experience with Iyengar Yoga to enroll.

Iyengar Yoga is known for it’s exacting focus on alignment, its ability to make yoga accessible to a wide range of student populations(of ages, body types, physical conditions, injuries,and more), it’s development of whole body strength as well as flexibility, it’s wide range of practices from dynamic practice sessions, to restorative yoga, to yoga therapeutics,as well as for the high quality of its teachers.

Some of the areas of focus of the training will include:

  1. Developing a strong personal yoga practice.
  2. Iyengar Yoga Teaching Methodology: The Arts of Demonstration, Instruction, Observation and Correction.
  3. Sequencing practices, classes and courses.
  4. Learning how to deal with common problems in the yoga class: helping those with back, knee, neck,& shoulder problems, hamstring injuries, and more.
  5. Anatomy for Yoga. More detailed study of the Hip and Shoulder Joints for example.
  6. This Course has a strong focus on the Philosophy of Yoga, its History and Development and its origins.
  7. Ethics of teaching Yoga.
  8. Yoga for Women.
  9. Restorative Yoga (this came from Iyengar Yoga!)
  10. Pranayama
  11. Therapeutic Yoga

Richard is The Seattle Area’s Only Authorized Iyengar Yoga Teacher Trainer.
Graduates will not be certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers which entails passing the Iyengar Yoga Certification process.

The training is excellent preparation and training for those interested in working toward obtaining eventual certification in Iyengar Yoga.

***The Alignment Principles taught in Iyengar Yoga can be applied to any other yoga tradition or a vinyasa flow practice as well. The techniques learned in this training not only will help to make your personal practice more accurate and more effective,  they will allow you to expand you ability as a teacher to reach a more wide range of students.***

You do not have to be an advanced practitioner to be in this training. Students can enroll in order to deepen their personal yoga practice and to learn more in-depth about this life changing practice.
