Often referred to as the “half marathon” of yoga, this year’s YogaLove 2014 fundraising event consisted of 108 Sun Salutations. The event took place on June 7 at the Mitchell Activity Center at Seattle Central Community College. The event’s objective was to raise money in support of Street Yoga, a non-profit organization that provides access to yoga as a healing tool to youth and families who struggle with poverty, abuse, trauma, addictions and homelessness.

Street Yoga’s mission is to “build capacity in youth to overcome trauma and to create meaningful, healthy lives through yoga and mindfulness.

The “108 Sun Salutations” yoga class was taught by nine instructors from different local studios in the Seattle area. Each one of them led the practice based on their style of yoga and offered a unique experience to the yogis in the room.

With 65 participants, 15 sponsors and one cause in mind, the fundraising event raised $6,800 and all of the proceeds went directly to support the Street Yoga program. At the end of the event, organizers hosted a raffle with special prizes.
