This is a Yoga Intensive, a Progressive 3-Week Course where the same group of students comes 4 days a week to learn how to practice yoga correctly, appropriately, and with energy and enthusiasm.

Students experience the power of almost daily practice, and how progress is made in yoga.

The course is for those brand new to yoga practice, those with previous yoga experience but not Iyengar Yoga Experience, and those with experience in Iyengar Yoga.

This type of course is rare in the Seattle area where most classes are casual drop-ins with new and different students in each class. These drop-in classes rarely advance the student.

What is Special about This Intensive Course?

  1. You are learning Iyengar Yoga, an extremely well respected, methodical approach to yoga which makes yoga accessible and lays out many clear paths to real progress.

Iyengar Yoga is often called the Gold Standard of Yoga Systems. It is practiced by over 10 million students worldwide. Time Magazine listed its founder BKS Iyengar as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2004.

Iyengar Yoga emphasizes precision of alignment in every yoga pose, and practicing poses in such a way as to create vitality and energy. Iyengar Yoga Poses have a life to them. They are not dull.

The development of increased awareness and sensitivity for each student is very important.

Iyengar Yoga emphasizes the regular practice of Standing Poses, Inversions, Forward Extensions, Backward Extensions. Twists and Restorative Poses in the practice.

Simple props are often used to make poses more stable, more accessible, and often, more accurate.

  1. The teacher, Richard Schachtel is one of the most experienced Yoga Teachers in the Northwest.

He has taught this course for over 25 years and understands what students need to know and practice in order to improve.

Richard has trained 23 times in India with the Iyengar family. He directs the Northwest Largest Yoga Teacher Training Program and Practitioner Training Program.

There is a maturity to Richard’s teaching, coming from many years of personal practice, study and teaching literally 1000’s of students.

  1. The intensive format where the same group of people attends 4 days a week for 3 weeks without any casual drop-in students helps to create an environment where the classes develop, and students make safe, consistent, real progress.
