About the instructors: Jenna McDonald & Annie James

Jenna McDonald

Jenna holds a 200 hr E-RYT with Yoga Alliance and has taught in the US and Abroad since 2010. She has a BA in Eastern Philosophy and Indigenous Education, but her true vedantic lineage comes through 4 + years of study at Arsha Vidya Gurukulam and independently with Teachers of the Swami Dayananda Saraswati Lineage. She has lived in Yoga Centers, Ashrams and Off-grid communities for the majority of her life – studying and applying a true yoga lifestyle. She has two spirited children Adi, 8 and Areya who is almost 3.

Her entry to asana came through a deep immersion in breathwork, meditation and shamanic healing arts. She now specializes in Breathwork, Yoga Teacher Trainings and a few weekly classes for devoted students on Bainbridge Island, Wa.

Jenna’s Classes are vigorous and oscillate between inspirational philosophy and alignment based Asana. As a modern mother, steeped in Ancient Traditions – she strives to offer both a challenging practice & an invitation to step into altered states of consciousness through sadhana (practice with the purpose of liberation).

Annie James“By title, I am a RN, certified counselor & coach and yoga teacher based in the Pacific Northwest. By passion, I am a student of yoga on and off my mat with the intention to support physical and mental healing in others.

I was introduced to traditional yoga as a child. My first official class I remember vividly at age 12. The teacher was kind and welcomed me as the youngest student. My pre-teen anxiety, which was a constant, lifted with synchronized breath to movement.

I grew up in competitive sports, and nurtured a mentality of perfection. Yoga plays an important role my life, allowing me to fully recognize my body and how to move with attention to breath vs. disconnect. During my 20’s I explored various styles of yoga while continuing my love for fitness and sports. I dove deeper into Hatha & Ashtanga Yoga, living for a year at Mount Madonna Center, a retreat center dedicated to living the 8 limb path.

At age 24 I began my nursing career and the grind of switch shifts, long hours and I found myself very disconnected from my body. Eventually I started working as an Oncology RN where I reconnected to yoga. I still love to play my edge in my practice but with an awareness of deeper work and integration what I have learned over the years.”
