This five day training retreat is for yoga teachers, therapists, hospice workers, chaplains, clinicians and others in pastoral care, or for those simply interested in learning more about being with people at the end of life, offering solace, presence and appropriate movement and touch.

We will look at three broad topic areas of yoga: self- study, movement and breath and contemplative tradition – and explore how each aspect has something unique and powerful to offer in end of life care. We will then learn and practice specific techniques within each of these areas, including basic Thai yoga compressions and gentle passive stretching.

When we are not together practicing in the gorgeous wood studio overlooking the ocean, or eating fresh wholesome food family style, participants will have plenty of time to lounge on the private beach in the jungle, swim, kayak, hike to hidden clay pots where you can dig cool clay to rub on your body and refresh your skin, visit a nearby Orchid farm, or simply swing in the hammock.

This retreat is limited to 7 people. There are 3 double and one single room. If there is a group of 4 people who want to come together and stay in a 4 person room, we do have this available at a reduced rate. Single room rate is $1,600, double $1,400.

Molly has been developing Bedside Yoga since 2003 and has worked extensively with people at end of life, including assisting and attending at scheduled deaths. She is a master teacher and a dedicated spiritual practitioner who can deftly weave practical tools, deep philosophy, and individual practice with humor, humility and joy.

Training begins Monday evening with group dinner and practice. Students are recommended to arrive Sunday evening and spend the night in Puerto Vallarta (we can give lots of recommendations for hotels and restaurants). We will send a car to Puerto Vallarta to collect all the students at a central location on Monday afternoon.

About the Teacher: Molly Lannon Kenny

Molly-Lannon-Kenny-Samarya-CenterMolly Lannon Kenny has been on the path to fulfilling her dharma since her earliest memories.  As a child, her parents would frequently take her and her brothers and sisters to the bookstore and let them wander for hours, lost in the magic of words and pictures.  Molly often found herself sitting cross legged, flipping through BKS Iyengar’s Light on Yoga, intrigued and entranced by the photos and the mystery behind them.  As a child, she was both physical and flexible, and often heard “you should do yoga!” from the adults around her, although it had very little meaning to her, but in fact, was most likely what sent her to the Yoga section of the bookstore in the seventies, long before Yoga was so widely accepted and practiced in the United States.

Life brought her many opportunities to share her fire and to realize her dream, but it was only when she discovered Yoga as a practice, rather than an odd set of circus tricks, did her specific path become clear to her.  Molly has been teaching Yoga to all levels of practitioners for over ten years, and has worked tirelessly to create outreach programs to people who would otherwise not have the opportunity to experience joy and contentment through the timeless teachings of Yoga.

In 2001, she founded The Samarya Center for Humankind (ness), a 501 c 3 non-profit organization dedicated to individual transformation and radical social change. She created, published and trademarked a unique therapy method, Integrated Movement Therapy, built on these same principles of acceptance and inclusion.  She has written and taught extensively on the topics of Yoga as Therapy and Yoga as a means to individual and social change, and is widely known as a vibrant, funny, accessible teacher, with a heart of gold and a spirit of fire.
