In 2014 there were 22,530 newly diagnosed cancer patients in OR and 38,230 in WA; this does not include those already living with/surviving the disease. We need more specially trained yoga instructors to help them recover safely and effectively. The Cancer Exercise Specialist Advanced Qualification is the most comprehensive coursework on cancer recovery. The course will be taught by Stephanie Adams, BS, 500-EYRT, and Yoga Alliance approved master trainer. The CES course covers 25 types of cancer, as well as pediatrics, with special emphasis on breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer, lymphoma and leukemia. We provide hands-on training & experience in assessment protocol, including goniometry to measure joint ROM, postural assessments and girth measurements to monitor for lymphedema. CETI’s protocol consists of yoga poses, along with breathing techniques, and range of motion exercises designed specifically for patients coping with cancer, with an emph! asis on regaining strength and flexibility, correcting postural deviations, improving lymph flow, preventing osteoporosis (an issue following chemotherapy and/or hormone ablation), and managing side effects caused by surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and other cancer treatments.The Cancer Exercise Specialist program will help to improve the patient’s ability to cope with the mental and physical stress following cancer diagnosis and treatment. Increased mental focus helps promote the re-discovery of the patient’s sense of well-being, joy and self-confidence
