Early Morning Immersion with Kim Tull-Esterbrook and Shelley Curtis

This monthly, 4-week series meets 3 mornings per week. The focus of each session varies depending on the goals and interests of the students enrolled that month. This is a great opportunity to deepen your practice, as we have time to build to specific postures, to explore yoga philosophy, meditation, and the more subtle (but powerful) aspects of practice! Appropriate for all levels of practitioners without acute injury. 11 – 12 classes total.
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday @6:15 -7:30 am
September session: 9/9-10/4 with Shelley Curtis
October Session 10/7-11/1 with kim Tull-Esterbrook
November session 11/4-11/29 with Kim Tull-Esterbrook
December session (3 week session) 12/2-12/20 with Kim Tull-Esterbook
You can make up any classes you miss in our regular drop in classes at the studio! You have two weeks after the session ends to make up the missed classes!
About the instructors:
Kim Tull-Esterbrook is certified through both the 200 and 500 hour teacher training programs at Whole Life Yoga, and is the current owner of Whole Life Yoga Studio. Kim uses yoga as a tool to help her know and understand herself and the world more fully. She has found that yoga, as a practice, helps her move with courage and grace through all the beautiful and challenging things she finds through that searching. She is drawn to the deeper tools of practice and she tries to infuse her asana classes with the richness of the other limbs of yoga. She is drawn to mediation, myth, and sound. She delights in ritual and play, and feels incredibly blessed that her path has led her to the viniyoga tradition. In taking leadership of Whole Life Yoga, she hopes to nurture and foster the vibrant community that already exists and offer practices and tools to deepen connection to self, to spirit, and to one another.
I started taking yoga classes after a minor back injury, partly to heal but mainly to strengthen and stretch my body to prevent hurting myself again. I loved the way yoga made my body feel and sensed there was more to it for my mind but didn’t understand the mental and emotional benefits until I was introduced to viniyoga just before I became pregnant with my first son (now 5 ½).
After I found out I was pregnant I started going to prenatal yoga classes at Whole Life Yoga and practicing at home almost daily. This is really when I started to get the body-mind connection that yoga, especially viniyoga, has to offer. By practicing viniyoga regularly throughout my pregnancy I was able to connect with my body and my baby in a way I don’t think I would have otherwise. The breath work and linking breath and movement allowed me to be fully present and helped me to ride the emotional roller coaster of pregnancy in a much more mindful way. The same held true for labor – and motherhood. I used the same tools during my son’s birth and then again as I struggled with being a new mom.
A couple of years (and many viniyoga classes) later, my dear friend and mentor, Sharon Beaudoin, urged me to consider enrolling in Whole Life Yoga’s teacher training program. I hadn’t ever thought about teaching yoga but met with Tracy anyway and decided to enter the program mostly as a way to enhance my home practice. Then came baby number two! I was lucky to experience the teacher training during my pregnancy for many reasons, one of which is that it ignited in me a passion for teaching prenatal yoga. And of course I fully experienced the many benefits of viniyoga throughout my pregnancy, labor and transition to mother of two!
