Come get messy and draw on a huge piece of paper on the ground! Take home your 4 foot by 5 foot piece of artwork at the end of the class. Use the motion of your body to create beautiful mandala’s and abstract art. An instructor will guide you through the process and NO ARTISTIC ABILITY IS REQUIRED! πŸ™‚

In various spiritual traditions, art may be employed for focusing attention of practitioners, as a spiritual guidance tool, for establishing a sacred space and as an aid to meditation and trance induction. The act of creating art is ritualistic by nature, and leaves the creator with the sense of release and purpose.

This class is designed to open up a creative space where the attendee can be a conduit for a creative piece that they will be able to take home with them and display. Art is therapeutic and has the ability to transform feelings and emotions out of the mind and onto the paper using rich colors and textures. Being an active participant in the journey of creation leads to a higher awareness of yourself and the world around you.

The class will begin by opening the space with a collective intention for creativity and connecting with one another in the class using singing while the instructor drums. We will then do some light yoga stretching, on a yoga mat that you will bring, in order to open up our artistic bodies and connect with our paper. The instructor will have the class gather around and instruct how to do certain techniques using the charcoal on the paper that the attendees will be able to practice on a small piece of paper of their own. Then, the class will be open for the creation portion, the instructor will walk around quietly and be available if there are any questions. Once the creation portion comes to an end, the instructor will explain how to do the after care of the piece as well as hanging instructions. The class will then walk around and look at each other’s creations and if anyone is called to share their experience, there will be a group discussion. The class will join together to close the circle of creative intention and take their pieces home with them. The piece of paper’s size is 4 feet by 5 feet.

What is required for the attendees to bring:

  • A yoga mat
  • A pair of yoga or active wear pants that are able to get dirty (you will get charcoal on them)
  • A pair of socks that are able to get dirty, make sure to bring back up socks for when you leave, or sandals

*Socks will be available for purchase at the class if you are in need of them. Yoga mats will be available depending on the availability and at the rates that the yoga studio sets

To attend this class, it is required that you bring an open mind to differing beliefs and journeys of the people in the class as well as an absence of negativity about what you create or what others create.
