Introduction to Pranayama series with Richard Schachtel
Mar 7, 2015 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm| $64 – $69
This is a 4 parts workshop series taught over the course of 4 Saturdays in March from 2:30pm to 4:00pm.
Pranayama or the Yogic Art of Breathing is a soothing and nourishing aspect of yoga that complements a regular practice of yoga asanas which contains a wide variety of types of yoga asanas or postures.
A more subtle practice than the yoga postures, pranayama relaxes the brain and nervous system, promotes mental clarity, healthier lungs, and an increase of balanced energy.
The course is open to all who practice yoga postures regularly as these strengthen the body, nervous system and mind for the practice of pranayama.
Pranayama has great benefit for modern overstressed lifestyles and complements the physicality of modern yoga asana practice.
You will learn some of the foundational practices such as ujjayi and viloma that one can start a personal pranayama practice with. We will practice both reclining in a supported fashion on blankets as well as (if possible) in a seated position.
We may practice some restoratives to prepare the mind and body for the inward practice of pranayama, and to specifically open the chest.
Please refrain from eating for a minimum on 3 hours before each session, and arrive 10-15 minutes early. Bring warm clothes and socks. Please bring 3 blankets as we will have a full house for this important class.
