Every yoga teacher needs to develop skills in teaching yoga to those who need a slower, less strenuous, and one that doesn’t stretch doesn’t overstretch the students.
Richard has been teaching a Weekly Slower Class for the past 7 years. In these classes, he has learned to modify classic Iyengar Yoga Poses to those who need a softer, less strenuous approach to yoga.

In this 4 week Saturday session you will learn:
- What are the most effective poses to teach a population that needs a slower approach.
- How to use props effectively so that less flexible students can do yoga with good alignment and be stable and safe.
- You will experience a variety of standing poses, supported and unsupported backarches, forward extensions, sitting poses on the floor, the effective use of a chair, beginning safe inversions, and relaxation poses.
Learning to Help out in Slower Yoga Classes 4 Week Sessions (for those who have taken the 4-week Introduction to Teaching Slower Yoga) Session 1: July 13-August 4 Session 2 Sept 8- 29 Session 3 Sept 29-October 20 Each Session is $100
About the Teacher: Richard Schachtel
Richard Schachtel has been training in Iyengar Yoga for over 40 years which emphasis developing a practice with a high degree of precision of alignment. He founded The Center For Yoga in 1980 and is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher and an authorized Iyengar Yoga Teacher Trainer. He has made 22 yoga study trips to India to personally train with the Iyengar Family most recently in December 2017. Richard is the Seattle Area’s most Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher. Richard has been training teachers in Seattle since 1986 and has influenced several generations of yoga teachers. There are over 125 recent graduates of this program which is offered also on the weekends, and in 4 week immersions.
