Join Rob and Melissa for a joy-filled evening of kirtan (call and response chanting). Kirtan is a form of Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of devotion, and whether you are new to it or a life-long devotee, Rob and Melissa offer a fun and accessible place to gather and sing together in community. “The words of these chants are called the divine names and they come from a place that’s deeper than our hearts and our thoughts, deeper than the mind. And so as we sing them they turn us towards ourselves, into ourselves. They bring us in, and as we offer ourselves into the experience, the experience changes us. They come from the Hindu tradition, but it’s not about being a Hindu, or believing anything in advance. It’s just about doing it, and experiencing. Nothing to join, you just sit down and sing.” – Krishna Das “Rob and Melissa light up the room with their soulful voices and their passion for Sanskrit chants and inspirational lyrics. Melissa’s angelic voice is the perfect complement to Rob’s more earthy, singer-songwriter vocals. Rob’s down-to-earth stories invite both the uninitiated and the more experienced kirtan participants to feel welcome.” – Jeni Martinez, Studio Owner at Three Trees Yoga Please bring a cushion or something comfortable to sit on. Kirtans take place on or around the second Saturday of the month. Please save the date: June 8, July 13, August 10, and October 11, 2019. (No Kirtan in September, November or December)

Location: Phinney Ridge, with Melissa & Rob Lundsgaard

About the instructors:

Melissa & Rob Lundsgaard Rob & Melissa Lundsgaard Kirtan Rob and Melissa are kirtan singers and yoga teachers devoted to sharing the heart-opening practices of Bhakti yoga and kirtan. Kirtan with Rob and Melissa is a fresh take on an ancient practice, where Sanskrit chants blend with modern, accessible melodies and lush harmonies to create an atmosphere that has been described as “joyful medicine,” “heart-opening bliss” and “love and devotion materialized!” When Rob and Melissa first met, neither of them sang kirtan nor practiced bhakti yoga. By the time they married two years later, love and devotion had become the foundation of their partnership. As these seeds of devotion to each other grew, Rob and Melissa’s bhakti yoga practice blossomed as well, as did the desire to share this with others. Their music, teachings and storytelling create a space of comfort, discovery, and deep joy. Rob and Melissa are based in the Pacific Northwest, but their music keeps them on the move, sharing kirtan as far away as India, Europe and Central America. When they aren’t on the road, the couple leads regular weekly and monthly kirtans in Seattle, WA. In addition to sharing their music at yoga studios and festivals (Bhakti Fest, Prana Fest, Samsara Fest, Northwest Yoga Feast), they teach Bhakti yoga workshops and modules for teacher training programs, provide live music for yoga classes and lead retreats around the world.
