Conscious Breath

Four-Week Series

with Joanna Dunn, ERYT 500

Mondays 2-3pm | ONLINE via Zoom | begins June 15

All sessions will be recorded. Attend live or watch at your convenience.

Additional Q&A time will be scheduled each week (timing TBD).

The breath is intimately connected with the mind, nervous system, the spirit and the energy body. Yet, we spend most of our waking hours breathing unconsciously. Through conscious awareness and careful, mindful control of the breath, we can awakened deep stillness and quiet within.

Using a combination of somatic movement, restorative yoga and yogic pranayama practices, we will explore this realm that is usually unconscious. The approach to our breath will be influenced by the Iyengar Yoga tradition in that we will proceed at a slow pace. Each week, we will use movements from the somatic movement method, yoga asana (gentle and restorative) to open the body to and bring awareness to the breath. In later practices, we will learn formal, structured yogic pranayama practices to soothe the nervous system and quiet the mind. This will provide excellent preparation for or addition to a meditation practice.

During weekly Q&A time, you’ll have an opportunity to ask questions, interact with Joanna and your classmates and to receive bonus materials.

This series is open to all levels, all bodies. Although it will be helpful if you own a bolster or 2-3 yoga blankets, two blocks and a strap, we can problem solve any missing items with normal household goods such as a couch cushion and bath towels. If you would like to purchase yoga props, we can help you find the appropriate ones. Not all yoga props are created equal. You’ll want to get them from a trusted source such as HuggerMugger.com
