Sardinia is a Blue Zone: one of the five regions on Earth with the highest percentage of people who live to be 100 or older.

What is the Sardinian secret to longevity? Is it great food, locally sourced and cooked with love? The famous wine made from the grapes that grow abundantly around the island? The pristine air, water, and land? The slow life, spent connecting with family, friends, and the self?

We’ll explore this incredible culture, relatively untouched by time, as we seek to enjoy the simple pleasures that life has to offer.

With all that the modern world has to offer, many of us don’t really have time to enjoy our lives. Rushing from obligation to obligation, we tend to find ourselves constantly busy. We may eat a protein bar in the car rather than savoring a delicious meal. We may sacrifice time with friends and family in order to “get things done.” Weeks may go by without really noticing a single sunset.

There is another way to live. The Sardinians exemplify the slow life. They spend time preparing and enjoying real food. They admire the beauty of their island, and build physical activity into everyday life through time spent enjoying the outdoors. They take care of each other and savor community.

Wouldn’t you like to see what it feels like to live like that?

EXPLORE THE CULINARY HERITAGE OF SARDINIA WITH A LOCAL INSIDER.

We’ll have a local guide help us to explore Sardinia – tasting olive oil, creating “painted bread” (a local specialty), cooking (then eating!) a delicious meal. We’ll explore all aspects of what makes Sardinian cuisine uniquely healthy as well as delicious. Yes, that includes wine, which the Sardinians enjoy (in moderation) on a regular basis! (Of course, alcohol consumption is entirely optional!) You’ll be able to ask your burning questions and truly dive deep into this culture. (Feel free to ask Dr. Patti your burning longevity questions as well!)

ENJOY THE OUTDOORS ON THIS UNSPOILED ISLAND.

We’ll also explore the natural beauty of Sardinia. From sandy beaches to dramatic sea cliffs, the island offers sanctuary to flocks of flamingos and other wildlife. We’ll spend time outdoors, with plenty of time to meditate and soak it all in. Spring brings lovely weather to Sardinia, and we plan to soak up the sun!

ENJOY YOUR STAY IN A UNIQUELY BEAUTIFUL SARDINIAN RETREAT.

Our home on Sardinia is a lovely old farmhouse that has recently been converted to a hotel/guesthouse. This charming space has every modern comfort, with a true Sardinian flavor. Located in a tiny town in the countryside, Lucrezia encourages you to remain open and to enjoy the beauty and culture around you.

We’ll be based on the west side of the island, far from the glitzy tourist areas in the north. This is the real Sardinia, where the old ways are still practiced and the natural beauty is unspoiled. From here, we can explore all aspects of what this unique place has to offer.

DAILY YOGA IN AN OUTDOOR GARDEN FILLED WITH SPRING FLOWERS.

Of course, with three yoga teachers leading this retreat, you won’t lack for yoga! We’ll offer a daily yoga practice to help keep your body feeling loose, strong, and healthy. You’ll love practicing yoga outdoors in the beautiful garden, lush with the beauty and scent of spring flowers. Meditations, both during our explorations of the island and in the evenings while nestled in our sanctuary, will also be offered. All of us are highly experienced in creating a balanced practice and modifying it for every body, so don’t worry if you have injuries – we’ll make sure it works for you. As always, every practice is optional, so don’t feel like you have to come to every yoga session! Ready now?

MARVEL AT THE ANCIENT RUINS –ROMAN AND MUCH OLDER.

Sardinia contains many reminders of the distant past. Although most of us don’t connect with past generations very often, this is easy to do here on this island. You may not be surprised to discover Roman ruins here; this ancient culture built its monuments to last. Many people don’t realize that Sardinia also contains the nuraghi, remains of an older civilization still shrouded in mystery. As we explore, we’ll contemplate the mystery of the past and our connection to those who came before us.

GET TO KNOW THE ETERNAL CITY WITH AN OPTIONAL EXTENSION TO ROME.

If you’ve traveled to Italy before, chances are good that you’ve already spent time in the incredible energy that is Rome. If you haven’t, or if you’d like to spend some more time exploring there, we invite you to join us for three additional days in Rome before heading to Sardinia. We’ll explore Rome’s world-famous sights, such as the Vatican, Colosseum, and Forum, while also enjoying its rich culinary heritage. While in Italy, Rome can’t be missed!

Patti, Tracy, and Sarah, on behalf of Discover Yoga, look forward to welcoming you to Italy.
