We are at an exciting time in the field of Yoga and Accessibility. With people now opening up their yoga classes and therapy sessions to a wide range of abilities and life challenges, we are more thrilled than ever to offer the Integrated Movement Therapy and Children workshop where educators, yoga teachers, parents, and clinicians alike have the opportunity to learn from Master teacher and autism specialist Molly Lannon Kenny.
In this highly engaging, practical, interactive and fun workshop, participants will learn games and activities that correspond to building skills in specific core areas, including social interaction, self-calming, and language stimulation, as well as structure and continuity, self-esteem building and physical stimulation. We will also touch on documentation, goal setting, behavior shaping and modification, and how to bring a humanistic, deeply loving approach to our work with every child, no matter how limited or challenged they may be in their current skill set.
The principles are universal in their approach and have wide application to typically developing children in all settings as well. Molly is a licensed speech-language pathologist with nearly 30 years experience in working with children with a variety of special needs. She developed IMT in the late 1990s while working in a clinical position at a major Seattle hospital. The IMT approach focuses on looking at skills in terms of “scaffolding”—how skills build on one another and provide foundations for higher level skills.
Participants leave with concrete ways of enhancing children’s ability to learn. This is an active and fun workshop that will improve your ability to work with children with a wide range of diagnoses or challenges, including autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety, sensory integration dysfunction, and self-regulation difficulties, as well as typically developing children.
This workshop will take the inclusion and accessibility model of yoga to a whole new level of professionalism and competency, and will allow clinicians and educators to bring the principles and practices of yoga and movement into their current practice with children.
Completion of IMT Basics is a prerequisite for any IMT Level One training and may be purchased online. This 3 day training is $475 if registered by April 19th or $525 afterward.
