This training will be given by Richard Schachtel a 30 plus year Iyengar Yoga Teacher and Founder & Director of The Center For Yoga of Seattle in Ravenna. Richard has been giving Teacher Training Courses in Seattle since 1986, and has trained many successful yoga teachers throughout the Northwest and the US. He has trained 20 times in India with BKS Iyengar and Geeta Iyengar at their institute in Poona, most recently in 2014.

Iyengar Yoga is known for it’s exacting focus on alignment, its ability to make yoga accessible to a wide range of student populations(of ages, body types, physical conditions, injuries, and more), it’s development of whole body strength as well as flexibility, it’s wide range of practices from dynamic practice sessions, to restorative yoga, to yoga therapeutics, as well as for the high quality of its teachers.

Iyengar Yoga is not a fixed sequence where you do the same practice every class. The room is not excessively heated. A full range of yoga poses are practiced including inversions. Iyengar Yoga often uses props which greatly increases one’s ability to practice with greater integrity and precision.

BKS Iyengar is the author of many books, including “Light on Yoga” “,Light on Pranayama”, & “Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.”

Some of the areas of focus of the training will include:

  • Developing a personal yoga practice. This is hugely important*
  • Iyengar Yoga Teaching Methodology: Learning The Arts of Demonstration, Instruction, Observation and Correction.
  • Sequencing practices, classes and courses.
  • Learning how to deal with common problems in the yoga class: helping those with back, knee, neck,& shoulder problems, hamstring injuries, and more.
  • Anatomy for Yoga.
  • This Course has a strong focus on the Philosophy of Yoga, its History and Development and its origins.
  • Ethics of teaching Yoga.
  • Yoga for Women.
  • Restorative Yoga. Restorative Yoga actually originated from Iyengar Yoga which most people are not aware of.
  • Pranayama, or The Yogic Art of Breathing. In Iyengar Yoga we teach pranayama in a systematic way starting from a supported reclined position later adding seated practice.

What is Unique about This Training? The unique aspect of this course is that you are receiving training in one of the most effective and intelligent yoga systems available: Iyengar Yoga. Iyengar Yoga is for all ages, body types, and all fitness levels.
Richard is The Seattle Area’s Only Authorized Iyengar Yoga Teacher Trainer and this is the only Authorized Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training in this area. Know the difference!
