Just Press Play! Join Lara Ederer, 500 E-RYT, YACEP, Yoga Medicine Therapeutic Specialist for this challenging, yet FUN 4-week online series exploring the fundamentals of a press handstand.
A “press” is an entry to an inversion that does not use hopping, kicking, or momentum. Instead, a “press” relies on mechanics, preparations, and practice.
Lara will explore key concepts towards establishing a press each week, layering on in a progressive workshop form so that you can develop your own practice towards pressing.
Mid week Lara will send “mini” practices for students to integrate into the current skills or further break down options. This is a great way to keep up with your practice in between sessions.
A freestanding handstand is NOT required to join this series but the ability to hold a 20 second handstand at the wall is recommended.
Each week we will integrate props and you will be notified in advance, as to what you will need each week:
– 2 yoga blocks
– Blanket for smooth floors or sliders on carpet
– Bolster (or thick cushion)
– Sturdy basic chair
– Wall
– Sense of humor!
Everyone will learn at different paces but the nature of this virtual series accommodates all levels of those who are “press” curious.
*Please note that this series will be offered entirely online in our virtual yoga studio. Sign up as usual and we will follow up with any additional steps that need to be taken.
*The live sessions will take place on Thursdays at 12pm. If you cannot attend the live sessions, we will send you a recording of the class!
Date: May 21st, 2020 – Jun 11th, 2020
Time: From 12pm – 1:15pm
Tuition: $99
About the instructor: Lara Ederer
Lara was introduced to yoga in 2002 by a newly certified friend who needed practice students. Over the next several years she ventured in and out of the practice as well as different styles until she found her “home” in Vinyasa and Ashtanga traditions. In 2012 she completed her 200 Hour with Be Luminous with a primary focus in Power Vinyasa. Her teaching style is playful and sprinkled with humor yet it is evident that she is influenced by deep rooted traditions such as chanting, Pranayama, and Sanskrit. Her greatest influences are Tiffany Cruickshank, Amy Ippoliti, Sri Dharma Mittra, and Troy Lucero. Lara is also a co-founder of Yogalab Northwest, a grass roots collaboration that hosts world class teachers in the Seattle area as a way to celebrate the strong local yoga community. She has had the privilege of hosting and learning from Mittra, Ippoliti, Cruickshank, Kino Macgregor, Jason Crandell, and has several more scheduled events on the horizon. Lara is currently enrolled in her 500 hour training with Tiffany Cruickshank; when she’s off the mat she enjoys time with her husband Mark and son Liam.
