Yoga is a system of practices that speaks to and unifies the many layers of our being…body, mind, heart and soul. Often, the main thing we offer our students is the embodied movement of an asana practice. Many of us have had the experience that we move our bodies and somehow our minds, hearts and souls are also touched. How can we, as teachers, be more direct in how we connect and integrate the many layers of our students’ being? How do we use our language to guide and connect with the tissue of their body so they have a living experience of the words, principles and philosophy we may be sharing? How can we organize and sequence the practice so they have an embodied exploration of the theme? How do we invite students to literally embody spiritual principles with words and actions?

In this workshop we will explore…

Where do your inspiration and words come from? What is authentic for you?

What resources can you draw from? Why?

How to use language to touch deeper than the tissue of the body

Ways to incorporate your theme throughout the practice rather than creating a ‘spiritual/theme sandwich’

How can the sequence help the theme land in the body?

Creative ways to sequence movement and shape to facilitate body-mind-heart integration

Which comes first…sequence or theme? What works best for you?

About the instructor: Elizabeth Rainey

Rainey

I believe in the wisdom of the body. Over the years I have learned to listen to my body with reverence and respect for it knows things deeper and wider than my reasoning brain. You can learn to listen to your body too. I believe that we can deepen our presence in the world and in our lives if we hone this capacity for listening and tending our body. I know from my own years of absence that when we show up in and as our body we are more capable and wise in every sense. I believe we can heal our wounds of body, mind and heart with compassion and presence and a fierce softness.

My biggest joy is accompanying another in their reclamation process of body, mind and heart. I bring an incredible amount of hard won wisdom, deep curiosity and gentle compassion to the work of presencing another’s pain, love and healing. I have decades of experience in the movement arts of yoga and Continuum, in the mindful arts of meditation and energy healing and am currently training in the powerful body wisdom practice of Somatic Experiencing®. I am an IAYT certified yoga therapist and an ERYT-500 certified yoga teacher and trainer.
