Calm: An Evening of Yin Yoga and Abhyanga (guided self-massage)

Treat yourself to a Friday night of deep relaxation body and mind. Join Meagan of Sugarcane Yoga and Cara of Cara Jane Holistics for a gentle Yin yoga followed by a guided self massage (Abhyanga) from the comfort of your own home.

These practices are paired together in a special event intended to promote physical and mental relaxation while boosting the body’s natural immune system response.

Yin yoga is a slow, meditative practice where seated and lying down postures are held for time to access the deeper connective tissues in the body. This sequence uses props, longer held poses and gentle movement designed to encourage the flow of lymph and energy through the body.

Abhyanga is a form of Ayurvedic medicine that involves therapeutic massage of the body with warm oil. Through this practice of self-massage, participants will experience stress relief, a profound sense of calm and connection to inner-being.

You will need comfortable loose fitting clothes, a yoga mat, a blanket, a pillow or cushion, a towel that can get a little oily, and oil (coconut, sesame, or sunflower are all good options).

This practice is all levels and no experience in Yin Yoga or Abhyanga is needed. Please reach out to us with any questions or special accommodations.

This event is a fundraiser for WA BLOC, please pay what you can. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Date & Time: Friday, June 19, 2020 @7:00pm – 8:30pm

Cost: $15

About the instructors: Meagan Lass & Cara Jane

Meagan Lass

Meagan Lass, founder of Sugarcane Yoga, began her journey into yoga in an unexpected and life changing way. Years of a working as a chef in the restaurant industry had created chronic stress and back problems. She had been suffering from constant pain for months when she walked in the door of her first Vinyasa yoga class. She knew immediately she had found something integral to her healing.

Through a regular yoga and meditation practice, Meagan found increased flexibility and strength, and reduced physical pain, stress, and anxiety. Practicing yoga allowed her the space for real growth and personal development; she started yoga to find relief from physical symptoms, but found so much more in her deeper mind-body integration. She also found within her a strength she didn’t know she had; inspired to support others in their journey to wellness she left her career in the restaurant industry and founded Sugarcane Yoga.  Meagan has several hundred hours of yoga training and teaches mindful vinyasa, hatha slow flow, yin, restorative, and adaptive yoga for injuries.

Cara JaneUsing the ancient sciences of Ayurveda, Yoga Asana and Meditation, I work with others to remember the importance of self compassion and self care. Ease and joy are your birthrights and the journey you take to get there is unique to you. In a world that demands that we continue to go when life gets us down, I have been privileged to work with others that remind me it is okay to take a break. I look forward to meeting you where you are at and remind you that you deserve a break too! When working with me, you can think of me as more of a guide than an expert. My support style can be thought as one part advocate, one part cheerleader, and one part guide with sprinklings of humor, compassion and empathy. I will be there to support you when times get tough and congratulate you on your successes. More importantly, I will affirm the decisions you feel are right for you. I am a RYT 200 Yoga Teacher, and Ayurvedic Wellness Coach. I have studied with Katie Silcox (Shakti School), Greta Hill (Rasa Yoga),  Janet Stone, and Leah Zaccaria.
