Anxiety is a challenging yet natural response that tells us something doesn’t feel safe. It arises when the nervous system becomes overwhelmed and begins looking for help. Yoga is unique in its wholistic approach to well-being. Its consideration of the body, mind and heart has profound effects on the nervous system. Understanding what lies behind anxiety can help transform this powerful and intelligent energy. This series combines modern research and yogic techniques to offer an accessible approach to working with anxiety.

Students can expect to learn about: 

The autonomic nervous system and sympathetic overload
Polyvagal Theory and the Vagus nerve
Befriending anxiety
Asana (postures), pranayama (breath exercises), and dhyāna (meditation) that supports anxiety
Sanskara and vāsana – unconscious impressions that can cause anxiety
Purusa – The inner healer

About the instructor: Jenny Hayo

Jenny Hayo

Jenny Hayo has taught in the healing arts for over 20 years as a teacher of awareness-centered practices and the awakened consciousness. She began studying the Yoga Sutras with her teacher, Jo Leffingwell, in 2001. As an interdisciplinary teacher, Jenny’s work synthesizes over two decades of classical yoga study, Hatha Yoga, Buddhism and modern mind/body therapies, including The Hakomi Method and IFS (Internal Family Systems). She teaches workshops and retreats throughout the year and maintains a spiritual counseling practice rooted in the wisdom presented in the Yoga Sutras.  Jenny is known for her clear and direct teaching style that meets students wherever they are on the path of their own Self-discovery.
