Event Navigation

The yoga world lost giant on August 19th. You may not have heard much of BKS Iyengar before that date but with the almost nonstop articles in so many publications you now know know something about this revolutionary figure in the development of the practice and teaching of yoga as well as his influence on the spread of yoga to the west.

Even non Iyengar teachers such as Eric Shaw have acknowledged that Iyengar has been the most influential Teacher on the field of yoga in America. Recent articles have described Iyengar as the Inventor of Yoga (New Yorker) and as Instrumental in Bringing Yoga to America (New York Times)

Richard Schachtel knew BKS Iyengar well as a personal student of his for over 30 years. Richard first trained with Iyengar in India in1980, then again in 1982, 1988, 1996, 1998, 1993, and in numerous yoga conventions in the US. He also trained with him in his yearly pilgrimages to India in the period 2001-2010.

Join Yoga Students from around Western Washington to hear Richard talk about the extraordinary life and legacy of Yogacharya BKS Iyengar.
