Seattle Yoga Meetup: Sound Bath + Restorative Yoga with Richard Grace & Jennifer Hepton
Nov 20, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm| $35
Let’s put a pause on our day.
Take the time and space to access deeper levels of active relaxation through restorative postures while receiving the healing effects of sound therapy. This practice will relax your nervous system and help you experience a deep feeling of peace and calmness.
Alchemical Crystal Singing Bowls (Sound)
Our entire human body down to our very DNA is crystalline in structure, causing it to respond and resonate with the extraordinary frequencies of quartz crystal. The specific harmonic energy that emanates from crystal singing bowls is not only by the bowl size and shape, but the combining of pure quartz with other elements including precious gems and minerals. These alchemical singing bowls are tuned to specific pitches which specifically activate and stimulate the chakras as well as other parts of the body. The sounds can be grounding as well as work our physical body and etheric/energetic body. Alchemical singing bowls are powerful sonic tools for transformation and healing.
Restorative + Yin Yoga (Restore)
Restore yoga is a combination of yin and restorative yoga that seeks to achieve physical, mental and emotional relaxation. Restorative yoga is where we hold poses to provide healing for the body and the mind. It is especially useful when you need to eliminate fatigue and stress that result from your daily activities. Yin yoga postures are passive postures, mainly on the floor and the time spent in these postures allows the mind and body to enter into a meditative state of mind. It is known that restore yoga can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which enables automatic control of the body. Constant practice of restore yoga will make your body less vulnerable to stress-related illnesses and help you achieve optimal health.
Richard has been teaching yoga since 2012. He is a classical pianist and organist, and began his practice of meditation while studying music in graduate school. Eventually he found yoga, and since becoming a teacher of yoga, has worked to incorporate his love of meditation, music, chanting, and sound healing into his classes. He gives a variety of workshops that incorporate Alchemical Crystal Singing Bowls. Richard is passionate about working with other teachers, and has taught for yoga teacher training programs in the areas of meditation, chanting, music sequencing, and energetic body attunement through sound.
Richard also operates a full-time piano teaching studio in Bellevue, and is a long time church musician. Before moving to the Northwest, he was on the piano faculties at the University of Oklahoma and the State University of New York in Potsdam, where he worked with music education majors and taught piano pedagogy.
