Spotlight on Yoga, a new FRIDAY evening class to showcase the very best of what Seattle has to offer in the way of yoga and related body-mind-spirit practices and activities.

HIP-GNOSIS: Getting to know your hips!

We all love juicy hips because they’re fun, sexy, and potent. The juiciness comes from a good balance between flexibility and strength. Open hips increase our range of motion and allow the pranic life-force to flow down and generously nourish the roots of our lower extremities keeping feet, ankles and knees vital and injury free. Strength and stability are essential to heal and prevent injury to the lumber region and the sacroiliac joint. While we move through an asana sequence addressing the physical anatomy of the hips, above. and below, we will dive into a metaphysical exploration of the 1st & 2nd chakras where the challenges of survival and relationship lay in close proximity.

Sheev Ray gives a special thanks to his guru, Kathleen Hunt, who opened his heart and inspired him to take the path of yoga in 1992. He shares, “within the first week of instruction I realized this was what I was supposed to do without knowing much about it. From a bitter and broken past the practice slowly healed my anger and pain vastly improving every aspect of my new life. I came to realize that everything I perceived was a reflection of my inner state, and so the most important thing I could do in this lifetime was to understand myself. All my relationships have been vastly improved (family, friends, and coworkers) as a result of the practice which often starts on the physical level and works its way deep into the subtle layers of emotion, mind, and spirit. I began teaching in 1996 and three years later co-founded Samadhi Yoga Center on Capitol Hill in Seattle.” Sheev Ray Yoga combines the inspirations of my many wonderful teachers including Bhagavan Das, Krishna Das, David Life, Sharon Gannon, Dharma Mittra, Ravi Singh, Rod Stryker, Aadil Palkhivala, and Adyashanti.
