Amanda Ford Yoga Seattle

Join Amanda Ford and Denise Benitez for this yoga workshop taking place at Seattle Yoga Arts in Capitol Hill.

It’s an exciting time to be practicing and teaching yoga. For decades flexibility, “lengthening” your muscles and training your joints to move into extreme ranges of motion, were typically the focus of yoga asana. This is quickly changing as the studies of exercise science and biomechanics are more readily applied to yoga, moving us toward a more integrated view of asana that recognizes the importance of muscular strength as well as flexibility.

Join us for a lively workshop filled with discussion and practice.

You will learn about the most recent science of stretching and how flexibility is actually in your brain, not your muscle tissues themselves. You will learn why muscular strength is more important than muscular flexibility for protecting your joints against injury. You will learn how the modern world places particular physical demands upon the human body, and how those of us living in this specific time and place can use targeted flexibility and strength training to improve our health and quality of life. You will be encouraged to think critically and creatively about how you can apply modern knowledge of our human structure to the traditional practice of yoga asana. Finally, you will come away with unique and practical strength-building sequences that can be performed on their own or inserted easily into a yoga class sequence.

You will receive a booklet of complete class notes and exercises to deepen your strong yogi practice outside of the workshop.
