Summer Solstice Yin Practice

The summer solstice is the day with the most daylight of the year and it marks the first day of summer. It is a celebration of the sun, of abundance, of joy, expansion, and an honoring of the light within us. Summer is the time of the year when we usually love to gather outside with our community, dance, and be in nature. It is the most yang (active) time of the year. Yin yoga is a beautiful, grounding, and healing practice. Being in yin yoga poses on the floor for a longer time, we relax the muscles to target the deeper connective tissues in our bodies. With mindful breathing practices and “mini-meditations” we will support the mind to calm our system and to balance out the heat that summer naturally brings. In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) the energy and expansiveness of the Summer are connected with the Heart and Small Intestine meridians (energy channels). In this workshop, we will practice poses that aim to stimulate the energy flow in those Meridians (energy channels) to encourage balance and joyful energy in both body and mind. We’ll use a lot of props to support our bodies’ unique needs.

Please dress in layers. Everybody is welcome!

Date & Time: Tuesday, June 22nd @7pm-8:30pm

About the instructor: Kathrin Kanzler-Frontini

Kathrin Kanzler-FrontiniKathrin is a world traveler who grew up in the southern part of Germany. She draws her energy and inspiration spending time outside in nature and being with her little family. Throughout her life, she was always active in multiple sports, yet still felt something was missing. It was not until her mid-twenties while spending a week in nature in Sweden, that morning yoga classes became her fulfilling ritual. Shortly after, she started practicing Ashtanga yoga and found what she always had sought through movement: the connection between mind, body, and soul. After leaving her first Ashtanga class, she felt a spark had been ignited and the practice and study of yoga have become a regular part of her life ever since.
Kathrin’s teaching is inspired by her desire to share the gifts and benefits of yoga. With warm energy, her classes focus on the connection between breath and movement, combined with a mixture of rhythmic flow and mindful holds as well as calming and meditative practices. Having her background in Social Work, Kathrin is a compassionate teacher who values an authentic connection to her students.
