“Yes, And” Yourself Playshop: The Playful Path to Self-Love
In this playshop, we shift from fighting with ourselves, to experiencing what it feels like to SAY YES and PLAY WITH what is happening within us. Learn to improvise your way to self-acceptance, clarity and new choices! Kids aren’t the only ones who benefit from playing! This playshop is designed for adults 18+.
* Shift your experience from being stuck to enjoying new possibilities
* Deeply listen to yourself
* Welcome your thoughts, feelings and sensations
* Amuse yourself with spontaneous creative expression
* Tap into the power of your playful creativity
The more we practice being in the same space with our feelings, thoughts and sensations, the more we truly experience loving ourselves. This experiential class adds a playful layer to self-acceptance that is different from mindfulness and meditation. We bring awareness and attention to our inner experiences by playing them out loud through whole-body activities.
Saying a playful YES to our experience opens up a fountain of creative flow, AND we discover in the moment what comes next! “Yes, And” is infinitely more fun and engaging than trying to stop our unwanted experience with repetitive thoughts.
Through improv-inspired, transformational explorations, you’ll embody the “YES, AND” principle — playfully accepting your inner experience, conjuring clarity and breaking through to creative choices.
These “Yes, And” moves are effective at shifting your relationship to your inner experience because…
– They don’t make you wrong or TRY to change your experience. Taste the freedom
of allowing yourself to HAVE your experience without the fear of being STUCK in it.
– They add a touch of play. As soon as you’re willing to welcome and play with something, it transforms. You can’t improvise or play with something and NOT have it transform.
– They’re simple to learn and fun to master. These “Yes, And” moves take 10 minutes or less. They have few steps. And they’re fun. As you come back again and again for the joy of playing with your experience, you open to deeper and wider self-discovery.
Ways we will be improvising and playing with our inner experience may include:
- Exploring and Heightening
- Whole-body Expressing
- Interviewing A Character
- Playing with Space
- Experimenting with New Choice
We’ll learn to “yes, and” our inner experience including our thoughts, sensations, feelings, body movements and attitude. As a group, we will support each other with presence and connection as we learn, play and discover new choices.
Date and time: Saturday 10 June, 2pm – 4pm
Cost: $50 per person; Aya members save 10%. Subject to cancellation in the event of low enrollment (so invite a friend!).
About the instructor: Dhira Brown
Through her own transformational journey, Dhira Brown discovered how much easier it is to use her whole self to transform her experience through play, rather than struggling to “figure things out” with just her brain. Dhira weaves improv games, nature connection and whole-body explorations to evoke presence, spark collaboration and catalyze playful personal growth. She’s a certified Hendricks’ Big Leap Coach and facilitator and has also been practicing traditional theater improv since 2015, graduating from Seattle’s Unexpected Productions School of Improv. Dhira founded Play It Out Loud to inspire and empower people to take the leap from resisting their experience to creating new choices in their lives, communities and the world!
