Workshops are offered to people of all body types and abilities.
Power Your Pelvis: Stabilizing from the Pelvic Floor
Saturday 9:30am – 12:30pm
Is your pelvis overachieving, underachieving or well-balanced? Injury, childbirth and aging can contribute to a lack of tone and sense of instability right where we need to be connected the most – the pelvis. Blending western and eastern approaches, this workshop promotes the yoga approach to the health of the pelvis as a way of supporting the health of the whole person. Yoga offers a brilliant remedy through cultivating awareness of bandhas.
The Liberated Shoulder: Breath, Ribs & The Shoulder Girdle with Joani Gelinas, P.T.
Saturday 2:00pm – 5:00pm
Most of us have experienced that feeling of our shoulders being immovable, tense, slumping or heavy—because of past experiences, injuries, traumas or daily life. In this workshop, we’ll focus on breath, ribs and imagery to liberate the shoulders. Together, we will imagine and embody movements that unravel body-holding patterns and inform our postures, movement patterns and yoga practice. Joani Gelinas, a long-time holistic physical therapist in Seattle, co-teaches this workshop.

About the instructors:
Chiara Guerrieri offers yoga instruction and one-on-one sessions with a focus on wellness through discovery, guided by extensive study into the body’s inner workings. Her private sessions, classes and workshops teach how to connect with the body through the breath, how to track physical sensation moment to moment and how to find an internal sense that guides movement and choices for well-being. Chiara has studied a wide-range of bodymind disciplines – Yoga, Somat, Massage, Meditation, NonViolent Communication, among others– mastering the material deeply enough to teach in each of these areas. Chiara has been working as a massage therapist since 1983, a yoga instructor and teacher of Anatomy & Physiology in yoga teacher trainings since 1996.
Joani Gelinas has worked steadily for the past 41 years to perfect both the art and science of her Physical Therapy practice. She began her career with traditional physical therapy training and techniques.
In 1998, she met and trained with movement expert Judith Aston, and became an Aston Patterning faculty member. Aston Patterning looks at the body as a 3-dimensional, spiraling, integrated system, which transforms unhealthy movement and postural patterns.
In 2003, she became certified in the Franklin Method, studying personally with Eric Franklin. The Franklin method uses imagery and movement as a way of teaching an accurate understanding of the body’s natural design and structure, and its ability to create change.
In this workshop, she will assist yoga practitioners, whether advanced or just beginning, in creating ease, resilience, natural alignment, along with expanding inner somatic imagery and experience during yoga practice.
Joani is known for her clear, personal and accessible teaching. She conveys her excitement about sharing her work, and her sensitivity in working with each individual’s unique structure. She also has a deep understanding of how the body holds one’s entire history. Joani’s work deeply honors the journey of unraveling the history in our body’s holding patterns.
