The 8 Limbs Yoga Centers are located in Capitol Hill, Wedgwood, Phinney Ridge, and West Seattle. They offer a weekly yoga nidra class led by Tracy Hodgeman. Expect these sessions to be a systematic process of deepening relaxation, an internal, meditative yoga that happens while your body is completely still.
It is said that one hour of yoga nidra is more restful than four hours of normal sleep! When we remove stressors, the body relaxes and the immune system functions more efficiently. Vitality and vibrant health are restored. We have more energy to do the things we want to do! Another key element of this practice is the combination of relaxation with Sankalpa. A Sankalpa is a positive statement or intention that invites us to transform our lives, our very beings, as we look inside and ask ourselves the question “what does my heart desire?” This is such an important question to ask, and to ask often. Wear comfortable clothes (think pajamas) and leave the belts and bras behind.
Sangha Yoga is an unheated yoga studio located on top of the Queen Anne neighborhood in Seattle. It offers a weekly Slow Flow & Yoga Nidra class lead by Nancy Lea. This session is a slower paced class that includes a mindful sequence of postures supported by calm, gentle breath. It ends with a 20-minute Yoga Nidra practice, a deeply relaxing guided meditation that is done lying down in savasana. It is often referred to as the sleepless sleep because it induces a hypnagogic state, in between being awake and asleep. Nancy will share with you the practice of Yoga Nidra as taught to her by her teacher Mona Anand, a Yogaraj (Yoga Master) in the ISHTA lineage.
