Jasmine Rashae:

I began my yoga journey in 2012 at a yoga/ pilates fusion studio called yogalates in Baton Rouge, LA.
Yogalates is a combination of calisthenics, yoga, and Pilates. I was a former cheerleader and soccer player so I craved movement. These classes allowed me to move through a series of poses, use my body weight and focus on my breathing. After one class I was hooked! From Baton Rouge, I moved to Austin and continued my practice in a more spiritually rooted yoga studio called Yoga Yoga and it changed the trajectory of my yoga path. Yoga became a way of life and a place to explore myself and spirituality.

I have created a unique niche of yoga called Soulful Flow Yoga. Soulful Flow Yoga (SFY) merges mindfulness, movement, and conscious music into an uplifting yoga practice to deepen the student’s connection to their mind, body, and soul. I teach a slow flow/ vinyasa class. The movements are curated to the music and messaging of the class. Each class is a unique experience for the practitioner. I am a natural motivator with a big personality so I believe that is transferred to my students when I teach. I have been called a ” preacher teacher” by multiple students.

My mission is to provide accessible, affordable and inclusive yoga and mindfulness practices for youth and adults. I aim to cultivate an inclusive space and provide healing tools through movement, meditation, and music. I particularly have a mission to share yoga with brown and black communities. A couple of weeks ago I attended a Bhakti Yoga class by Heather Falkin at Sangha Yoga. The beautiful chanting of the Gayatri mantra spoke to my soul and brought me to tears in class. I sobbed on my mat for about 10 minutes. I was inspired and felt free to surrender.
My students inspire me every time I teach. When I look out into a room filled with beautiful brown/ black people and all races on their yoga mats together it sets my soul on fire! That motivates me to continue to live in my purpose, and my dharma. They give me such amazing energy and I am in awe that I have the opportunity to share space with them. I am still a new teacher so the idea that these beautiful souls show up to practice with me is mind-boggling. I am so inspired to keep going and to keep sharing the yoga magic.

The wellness industry in the west is primarily marketed to upper-class white Americans who can afford yoga. As a black yoga instructor it important that I help educate and share the gift of yoga to brown and black communities. It is important that I make it affordable, accessible and free. Representation is important, so it is my mission to cultivate safe places for people of all races and body types to experience the healing benefits of yoga. Our cultures are rooted in movement and music, so my goal is to bridge that connection with the gift of yoga. I am transitioning into a pescatarian, plant-based diet. I am trying to nurture my body with food ” from the earth”.
I cross-train at the gym 3 times a week and love jogging green lake when time permits. Making time to be in nature is grounding for me, so bring my yoga mat outside a lot. I love allowing my feet to feel the grass and earth support me. I feel safe and stable.
I read daily devotionals, write and then meditate every morning at 5:00 am.  This sets the tone for my day.
From there I go to the gym or yoga every day.
