6-Week Series with Douglas Ridings
Tuesdays, 7:00-8:30pm, March 2-April 6, 2021

What is Tantra? How has modern practice been shaped by ideas from the Medieval era?

This 6-week course will introduce participants to some of the basic tenets and concepts of various Tantric philosophies. We will explore Mantra (repeated intentional sound), Yantra (instruments for meditation) and other practices for harnessing and cultivating Shakti (power). We will also delve into the subtle anatomy of the Nadis (energy channels) and Chakras (energetic centers), the Das Mahavidyas (Ten Great Wisdom Goddesses), the transgressive practices of the Aghoris, Bhuta Shuddi (purification of the elements), and a variety of other ways that Tantric practitioners have pursued and continue to pursue Moskhya (liberation).

Our study will involve selections from some of the major Tantric texts such as the Vijñāna-bhairava-tantra and the Sat Chakra Nirupana. These ideas will be discussed in their historical context with the consideration of how they have influenced and been modified by the development of the modern global yoga movement.

This series will feature lecture and discussion and is open to anyone interested in learning!

Recordings will be available to participants until April 20, 2021
