Primary Series and Modifications for Beginners
Sundays 2:30pm to 4:30pm, February 7th-March 28th (8-week series)

Livestream

Ashtanga Vinyasa is a set series of postures linked by breath and based on the dynamic flow of Surya Namaskar (sun salutations) “A” and “B.” The Sanskrit word Ashtanga  means eight-limb, referring to the eight limbs of Yoga practice, or the foundation of the science of Yoga. The word Vinyasa means “to place intelligently” in Sanskrit. The sequence of Ashtanga can be seen as the foundation for many other practices of Vinyasa, also called flow. To access this athletic practice, it can be helpful to learn the how and why, and break down the components in order to bring them together more seamlessly.

This eight-week series offers a comprehensive overview of the practice of Ashtanga, the Primary Series and modifications to postures in the series. Please have at least 6 months of experience in flow/vinyasa yoga to take this series.

Please arrive for each session with an empty stomach (last meal at least two hours prior). We advise the use of a mat, two blocks, and a strap. Each session is 90%-95% asana practice and 5% -10% theory. The theory is weaved into the practice.
