Yoga for Inner and Outer Healing

The Yoga Sutras, an ancient yogic text from India, state we are lost in a world of suffering. They then give us a path towards freedom from pain. That freedom is our inherent and natural state of being. Pain becomes our life when we actively forget who we are and start identifying ourselves and others through the distorted prism of the world. Immersed in this false identification, attachment, aversion and fear, it’s easy to judge our selves and others by skin color, culture, upbringing, religious preferences, body size, gender, sexual orientation, likes, dislikes, all the pairs of opposites.

We are all multi-layered and diverse. That is our beauty, our strength, and our healing. Yoga teaches us to loosen the grip of our ignorance and judgment, to stand in the truth of intelligence, again and again for as long as it takes. Yoga also requires us to meet our resistance to this truth with as much energy as the resistance itself contains, or we will surely remain under the sway of judgment, fear and pain.

This seminar will use the tools of yoga to gain access to our inner intelligence and give us the strength to loosen the grip of pain. With this, we actively heal not just ourselves, but also our families, our communities, the world. Yoga requires no less of us.

The Three Main Chakras

The three main chakras are the manipura, anahata and ajna. They govern the other major chakras in very sublime and profound ways. The Manipura Chakra at the navel center is the gateway to the lower two chakras and healing. The Anahata, heart, chakra is important because of its deep connection to Consciousness and our innate nature of joy. The Ajna Chakra at the Center of the mind is the Command Center and governs all the six major chakras in the body. By understanding these energy centers, you reach deeper into the well of yoga, enriching the practice you currently have in a profound and meaningful way.

Practice Foundation for Meditation

Often we practice asana for the body and then turn elsewhere to learn meditation. Patanjali, the codifier of the Yoga Sutra, set up a perfect and logical sequence for asana, pranayama, pratyahara and dhyana, meditation. The Himalayan Tradition––inextricably tied to the Yoga Sutras––offers a systematic practice of asana, pranayama and pratyahara that leads to and unfolds into meditation. Each of these steps, when practiced according to the knowledge of the Sutras, is the foundation for and the beginning stage for the next step. Invest your asana practice into enriching your meditation practice. Let the rewards of your meditation practice deepen. Join us and see how.

The Inspired (Yoga) Teacher

Often we lose our inspiration for teaching when it becomes a job and we replace our personal practice with a lesson plan. Challenge yourself to refine your own practice and explore a wide range of teaching methods. This class will enhance your ability to see your students, to know when, why and how to make obvious adjustments and subtle assists, and to use verbal, visual and kinesthetic instruction effectively. Come deepen your love for your practice and your teaching.
